Seoul Expands Climate Companion Card: Discounts for Multi-Child Families and Youth, New Han River Bus Pass

Starting September 14, Seoul Metropolitan Government will introduce new discount benefits for multi-child families and teenagers under the Climate Companion Card program, while also launching a new pass that allows unlimited rides on the Han River Bus scheduled to open on September 18. The Climate Companion Card is a unified transit pass that allows unlimited rides on subways and buses in Seoul for 30 days at a fixed price. With the latest changes, families and students will enjoy substantial savings and improved mobility options.

  • Families with 2 children: Public transport-only pass, 55,000 KRW for 30 days
  • Families with 3 or more children: Public transport-only pass, 45,000 KRW for 30 days

This means that families with three or more children can ride the subway and buses unlimited for just 45,000 KRW a month, significantly reducing transportation costs.

👦 New Youth Discounts

Previously, the Climate Companion Card included discounts for young adults but not for teenagers. Responding to feedback, Seoul will now introduce a new discount pass for ages 13–18:

  • Public transport-only pass: 55,000 KRW for 30 days

This will help ease transportation costs for middle and high school students while encouraging greater public transit use.

🚌 Han River Bus Unlimited Pass

A new option will be available starting September 18, coinciding with the launch of the Han River Bus. For an additional 5,000 KRW on top of the standard Climate Companion Card fare, riders will be able to use the Han River Bus unlimitedly for 30 days.

Seoul also announced plans to explore short-term Han River Bus passes based on ridership patterns and demand.

📲 How to Apply

To access discounted passes, applicants must verify eligibility on the T-money Card & Pay website:

  • Pre-verification opens: September 11 at 10 a.m.
  • Discounts available: From September 14
  • Pass format: Available in both mobile and physical Climate Companion Cards

Not only Seoul residents, but also residents of participating municipalities in Gyeonggi Province (e.g., Gimpo, Seongnam, Goyang, Hanam, Namyangju, Gwacheon, and Guri) will be able to enjoy the same benefits.

🎁 Pre-Charging Event

To celebrate the launch of the Han River Bus, a pre-charging event will run from September 1 to 17.

  • How to participate: Register on the T-money Card & Pay website, then complete a pre-charge between September 14–17
  • Prizes: 500 winners per day (2,000 total) will receive a 30,000 KRW gift certificate
